The District of Houston is seeking applications for the permanent full-time position of Water & Wastewater Systems Operator I / Municipal Equipment Operator I. Under the direction of the Manager of Engineering & Operations and reporting to the Senior Water & Wastewater Systems Operator, this is a skilled position responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of the District of Houston Water & Wastewater Systems and for other public works duties as available. This position will assist in the operation and maintenance of the utilities systems, take samples of rivers, wastewater and wells for testing, make repairs to water and sewer infrastructure. This position will also perform duties as an Equipment Operator I and will operate light/medium vehicles and equipment.

The incumbent will have:

  • a valid Class 3 Driver's Licence with an air brake endorsement,
  • good mechanical skills,
  • familiarity and ability to read construction drawings and other records and to make accurate changes to these drawings as necessary, and
  • Familiar with remotely controlled operating systems.

Additionally preferences will be given to candidates possessing the following certificates from the Environmental Operators' Certificate Program or an equivalent certification:

  • Water Distributions System Operator I
  • Water Treatment System Operator I;
  • Wastewater Collection System Operator I; and
  • Wastewater Treeatment Operator II.

Candidates not possessing these or equivalent levels of certification may be considered for the position and hired at the training rate of $29.26 per hour.

Casual Lifeguards

The Houston Leisure Facility has a standing opening for Casual Lifeguards - inquire today about position availability!

In order to qualify, you must have certification from the National Lifesaving Society, a CPR "C" Certificate, and First Aid Level 1 training. Previous experience as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification are preferable, but not necessary for the position.
