Corporate Officer

Job Description
Term: Permanent Full-Time (Exempt)

Classification: Exempt - Senior Staff

The District of Houston is looking for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment to assume the role of Corporate Officer.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you are responsible for the statutory duties of the Corporate Officer as stated under Section 148 of the Community Charter, including the preparation of Council meeting minutes and agendas, taking oaths and affidavits, and preparing bylaws, policies and procedures for the Chief Administrative Officer’s approval. Additionally, as a dynamic, self-motivated individual, you will be a key member of the senior management team committed to achieving the goals and objectives of the municipality. Public communication and open government transparency are important to the District and the Corporate Officer is responsible for producing and overseeing all communications and providing access to information. As the resident Parliamentary Procedure expert, you will attend regular and special Council and Council Committee Meetings to provide advice on parliamentary procedure.

You have a good understanding of parliamentary procedures and BC Municipal Legislation including the Community Charter, Local Government Act, Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act and Robert’s Rules of Order. As the Freedom of Information Head and the Records Management Coordinator, you have a working knowledge of access to information and privacy legislation, document retention requirements, and a strong ability to identify records critical for future generations of staff and citizens. You may also be designated as the Chief Election Officer for Local Government elections, and will serve as the Secretary to the Board of Variance. You will possess an undergraduate degree in public administration, a certificate in Local Government Administration or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in municipal government, with preference given to those candidates exposed to or having experience in the Corporate Officer’s role. You are a highly motivated professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of maintaining a high level of confidentiality in your affairs. An ability to maintain positive relations with the public, coworkers, various committees, Council and senior levels of government is essential to this position. You will also have a thorough knowledge of a variety of computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Civicweb Document Centre and Meeting Manager, and content publishing software.

Casual Lifeguards

The Houston Leisure Facility has a standing opening for Casual Lifeguards - inquire today about position availability!

In order to qualify, you must have certification from the National Lifesaving Society, a CPR "C" Certificate, and First Aid Level 1 training. Previous experience as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification are preferable, but not necessary for the position.
