KNOCKHOLT LANDFILL SITE

 The Knockholt Landfill Site is operated by the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako. For specific information on rates associated with dumping of wastes, volumes, etc. please phone 1-800-320-3339.

 

The landfill site hours are:      Monday to Sunday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (closed Statutory Holidays)

WHAT IF RESIDENTIAL PICKUP FALLS ON A STATUTORY HOLIDAY
Should a statutory holiday fall on a regularly scheduled residential pick up day, solid waste collection will move to the next weekday for that pickup. Should this result in a day already scheduled for another area’s residential pickup, that day shall also be moved to the next weekday. Service will return to the regularly scheduled day for the following week.

Examples:

Stat holiday is on a Tuesday: Tuesday schedule will move to Wednesday
                                          
Wednesday schedule will move to Thursday
                                           Thursday schedule will move to Friday

Stat holiday is on a Wednesday: Wednesday schedule will move to Thursday
                                                Thursday schedule will move to Friday

Stat holiday is on a Thursday: Thursday schedule will move to Friday


RESIDENTIAL SOLID WASTE REGULATIONS

The District of Houston would like to remind residents; residential solid waste service consists of the removal of not more than three (3) residential solid waste receptacles for each dwelling unit and each receptacle shall not exceed 20 kilograms in weight.  Residential solid waste service with Totter Cart shall consist of the removal of the contents of one Totter Cart for each dwelling unit.  The contents of each Totter Cart shall not exceed 60 kilograms.

In addition yard waste, including leaves, grass clippings, small branches and other compostable material from yard maintenance shall not be included for removal as solid waste.

 

The District has established a compost bin outside the gates of the Public Works Yard on Nadina Ave., and residents are encouraged use this bin to deposit compostable yard waste only.

 

Paints or paint cans shall not be removed by the garbage contractor.   These items will be accepted at no charge at the Knockholdt Landfill site, Paint Care Depot.

 

 

ACCESSIBILITY OF SOLID WASTE RECEPTACLES

All residential solid waste receptacles shall be accessible within a meter (3 feet) of the curb or curb line on a public road side.  All receptacles containing waste for disposal shall be placed at the designated location by 8:00 a.m. on all designated collection days.  No solid waste will be removed from private property or driveways on private property.

 

 

RESTRICTED MATERIALS

 The following is considered restricted materials and the District of Houston reserves the right not to remove such materials.

Ø       Animal excreta or ashes, unless properly contained in a separate disposable container;

Ø       Construction materials or waste;

Ø       Soils;

Ø       Yard waste including leaves, grass clippings, small branches and other compostable material from yard maintenance;

Ø       Vehicle parts;

Ø       Dead animals or birds;

Ø       Hot ashes;

Ø       Article of garbage too large for container;

Ø       Tires;

Ø       Batteries;

Ø       Paints;

Ø       Special waste.

 


COMMERCIAL BIN SERVICE

Solid Waste bins are available for those who require additional service to the three receptacles permitted per week.  The solid waste bins are provided by the Contractor and are available in three (3), four (4) or six (6) cubic yard capacity.  A bin is considered full when the solid waste is level with the top of the receptacle.  Click on Solid Waste Collection Fees above for information on fees.
