Director of Finance

The District of Houston has an opening for a Director of Finance.

As the leader of the Finance team of 3 full-time staff and reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will be responsible for managing the financial affairs of the District and providing strategic and creative financial advice to the Chief Administrative Officer and Council. Success in this role will require expert knowledge of municipal government financial operating processes, along with related legislation. Thorough knowledge of the principles, best practices and concepts related to financial management and accounting, including budget formulation and maintenance processes, investment and cash flow projections is critical.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the preparation of the District’s Five Year Financial Plan;
  • Recommending to the Chief Administrative Officer necessary bylaws, policies and procedures related to all aspects of revenue generation and control, expenditure controls, reserve and surplus funding, taxation and exemptions, other fiscal matters;
  • Coordinating the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements for Senior Staff, Council, and the public;
  • Exercising control and supervision over all financial affairs;
  • Directing and managing members of the Finance team; and
  • Overseeing the District’s Financial Information Systems.
You are the ideal candidate if you are a designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and have proven capabilities in financial management. You also have a proven ability to analyze and plan the financial activities of organizations, and are a skilled negotiator with a proven record of strong interpersonal and communications skills. You will also be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act, and Public Sector Accounting Board standards.

Election Officials Needed for the 2018 General Local Election

Election Officials are needed for the Advanced Voting Day on October 10th and General Voting Day on October 20th. An Election Official’s job duties include legibly registering voters, recording and confirming their identification, issuing ballots, and counting ballots. Hours of Work: Approximately 7:30 A.M. to 9 P.M. or until duties are fulfilled on Advanced voting day (October 10th) and General Voting Day (October 20th). A mandatory training session will be scheduled for October 4th, 2018. Rate of Pay: $20/hour, less any Mandatory Employment Related Costs. Leisure Facility Supervisor

The District of Houston has a full-time opening for Leisure Facility Supervisor

Under the general direction of the Manager of Leisure Services, the incumbent facilitates the development, promotion, implementation, direction and allocation of Leisure Facility recreation opportunities and programs, along with the supervision of the relevant staff. The incumbent will exercise considerable judgment and action in the performance of duties and be an active team player. Acts as a change agent and facilitator within the department.

Also responsible for lifeguard, instructional, and receptionist work as required in a relief capacity.

Due to the nature of the delivery of the aquatic programs and Leisure Facility, special sporting or recreational events, the Leisure Facility Supervisor may be required to work outside of traditional hours to a significant degree which will include evenings and weekends as a shift supervisor.

Casual Lifeguards

The Houston Leisure Facility has a standing opening for Casual Lifeguards - inquire today about position availability!

In order to qualify, you must have certification from the National Lifesaving Society, a CPR "C" Certificate, and First Aid Level 1 training. Previous experience as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification are preferable, but not necessary for the position.
