On behalf of Council and the District of Houston, I would like to thank you for selecting Houston as a potential location for doing business.
Over the years, Houston has developed a strong business community. The combination of existing infrastructure and business support companies, and a highly qualified workforce create the necessary ingredients for new business participants to grow and prosper.
Houston is currently home to one of the largest and most efficient wood processing mills in the province. Along with these primary processing plants, a number of value added plants have been established over the past decade. Another primary industry in the area is mining. Houston is the home community to Huckleberry Mines, a large copper and molybdenum mine located 85 kilometres to the south of Houston. Active drilling and exploration programs are underway on a number of other mining properties in the area, with the potential for additional mine developments on the horizon.
Recent economic developments ranging from the new container port at Prince Rupert, to the recently announced electrification of Highway 37 are creating opportunities for new and expanding businesses in the region. I believe Houston is well positioned to participate in these opportunities.
There is much more to Houston than meets the eye. The people of the community are extremely welcoming, the recreation facilities are top notch, and the outdoor recreation opportunities are endless. The quality of life is second to none.
I invite you to contact our District office with any questions you may have regarding economic development opportunities in Houston. Your inquiries will be addressed promptly, in the strictest confidence, and we will do all that we can to assist you in meeting your business goals in Houston.
Sincerely,
Mayor Shane Brienen
