PFT Lifeguard II / Instructor (Leisure Facility)

Term: Permanent Full-Time
Rate of Pay: $22.53 plus $0.85 premium when instructing.
Hours of Work: 35 to 40 Hours per week

Positions Available: 1

Primary Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Leisure Facility Supervisor, this position will be responsible for ensuring the safety, protection and enjoyment of those engaged in activities in or out of the water at the Houston Leisure Facility. This includes supervision and control of aquatic activities, ensuring that the facility rules and regulations are followed, ensuring that safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards and practices and maintained, and other duties as detailed in the job description.

Required Qualifications:
Water Safety Instructors Certificate
National Lifeguard Service Award
Level “C” CPR Certificate
Standard First Aid Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Experience as a Lifeguard or Instructor
Current Aquatic Emergency Certificate
Pool Operator’s Certificate Level I
BCRPA Personal Fitness Training Certificate
Life Saving Society Instructor Certificate

SPT Refrigeration Operator I (Arena)

Term: Seasonal Part-Time
Rate of Pay: $32.91 hourly
Hours of Work: Up to 22 Hours per week
Closing Date: August 31, 2022
Classification: Union – CUPE Local 2086
Positions Available: 3

Candidates must have sound related experience in ice-making operations and building services work. Candidates will also demonstrate strong customer service skills, establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and the public and have the ability to deal tactfully with groups and individuals. Primary Responsibilities:
Making, maintaining and monitoring ice surfaces;
Performing routine minor building repairs;
Cleaning and maintaining a variety of floor surfaces, glass, washrooms and change rooms.

Required Qualifications:
Training in the area of refrigeration operations
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
BC Refrigeration Operator’s Certificate or Ice Facility Operator’s Certificate
BC Refrigeration Operator or 5th Class Power Engineer Ticket (Refrigeration Operator II Only)

Preferred Qualifications:
An Arena Ice Maker’s Certificate and a Building Service Worker Certificate are considered assets for this position.

Casual Lifeguards

The Houston Leisure Facility has a standing opening for Casual Lifeguards - inquire today about position availability!

In order to qualify, you must have certification from the National Lifesaving Society, a CPR "C" Certificate, and First Aid Level 1 training. Previous experience as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification are preferable, but not necessary for the position.
