Economic Development

Economic development initiatives in Houston are managed by the District of Houston. The primary objective of the District is to promote Houston as an investment-ready, business-friendly community while attracting new businesses and encouraging existing businesses to remain and expand.

To achieve this, the District of Houston adopted an Economic Development Strategy in 2014 that guides its economic development activities. The strategy outlines five strategic priorities for Houston's economic development:

  • Business Retention & Expansion
  • Entrepreneurship Development
  • Expand Tourism Opportunities
  • Investment Attraction
  • Support and Facilitation

These priorities form the foundation of Houston's economic development efforts, which aim to strengthen the local economy, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for residents. By working collaboratively with businesses, investors, and other key stakeholders, the District of Houston is committed to promoting sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the community.
